Ganzeboom has been remanufacturing transmissions in Almelo since 1968. It sends commands to the control valves, and those valves set the pressures that select the right gear and operate the clutch. That is true whether the unit runs a wet or a dry double clutch: the mechatronic is what tells it when and how hard to engage.<\/p>\n<p>Because it is both electronic and hydraulic, it fails in both ways. Solenoids and sensors go out of tolerance, circuit boards develop faults, and valves and bores wear until the pressures they are meant to hold start to drift. The electronics and the hydraulics are both checked.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"symptoms\">Recognising a defective mechatronic<\/h2>\n<p>Certain signals point at the mechatronic rather than the mechanical side of the gearbox:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vibration or jolting as the clutch engages, or during a shift.<\/li>\n<li>Difficulty shifting up or down.<\/li>\n<li>Visible slip in the engine speed while shifting.<\/li>\n<li>Poor shifting at higher engine speeds.<\/li>\n<li>Shifting no longer possible at all.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None of these prove the mechatronic on their own, which is exactly the point of a diagnosis. Several of them also appear when the clutches or a sensor are at fault, and the whole value of testing before quoting is telling those apart before anything is stripped.<\/p>\n<div class=\"pmm-mec-warn\">\n<h2>If the car drops into its safety programme<\/h2>\n<p>When the control side detects a fault, the gearbox holds one safe gear and a warning appears on the dashboard. That is protection, not a suggestion. Driving on adds damage that was not there when the light came on. Have the cause established instead, and note that a mechatronic in trouble is one of the most common reasons for it.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h2 id=\"maintenance\">Keeping a mechatronic healthy<\/h2>\n<p>A well maintained mechatronic lowers what a future remanufacture, repair or replacement costs, and some of that maintenance is in the owner&#8217;s hands:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Change the oil and the filter on schedule.<\/li>\n<li>Have the unit checked by a technician rather than waiting for a symptom.<\/li>\n<li>Remember that driving style affects the wear and the life of both the mechatronic and the gearbox.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We recommend a thorough check by one of our technicians every two years or every 60,000 kilometres, whichever comes first.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"options\">Remanufacture, repair or replace<\/h2>\n<p>There are three routes, and a diagnosis decides which one applies.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"pmm-mec-steps\">\n<li><strong>Remanufacture<\/strong>When we remanufacture a DSG gearbox we remanufacture the mechatronic with it. We replace the failed components and also analyse the unit&#8217;s known weak points, so the aim is not only to fix today&#8217;s fault but to reduce the chance of the next one.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Repair<\/strong>Repairing a mechatronic is demanding work and depends heavily on the nature of the fault. Some components can be repaired; others have to be replaced. Which applies is established by diagnosis, not by guesswork.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Replace, or clone<\/strong>Where the unit cannot be saved, it is replaced. If the original is still readable, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ganzeboom.net\/en\/tcu-cloning\">TCU cloning<\/a> is often faster and cheaper than a new module: the data is transferred one to one onto a donor unit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Whichever route it takes, the adaptations and the drive procedure are part of the job, not an optional extra. Without them the gearbox keeps shifting on default values and the car will feel wrong even though the work was done correctly.
