Remanufacturing a mechatronic means restoring the control system that runs your gearbox to the way it was designed to work. Where wear or faults have crept in, the result reaches the driver as jerky shifting or poor performance. A remanufacture puts the system right and avoids the cost of replacing it outright.

What a mechatronic remanufacture is

The mechatronic controls your gearbox. When wear or a fault develops, the effect shows up as jolting shifts or reduced performance long before anything stops working. Remanufacturing brings the system back to full function, and it costs a great deal less than a complete replacement.

We do not strip out and replace everything as a matter of course. We replace what has to be replaced, and we also look at the components likely to cause problems in time, so the unit has years of service in it rather than months.

Where the module itself is beyond saving but can still be read, TCU cloning onto a donor unit is an alternative to replacement. Whichever route the work takes, the adaptations must afterwards be reset and relearned before the gearbox shifts properly again. Recognising a mechatronic problem in time

Spotting the signs early is what keeps the damage contained. These point at the control system:

  • Jolting or hesitation when shifting.
  • Slow response from the gearbox.
  • Error messages on the dashboard.

If you notice one or more of these, make an appointment as soon as you reasonably can. Continuing to drive a car that is telling you something is wrong is the most reliable way to turn a manageable job into an expensive one.

  • 2. RemanufactureDefective and worn components are then carefully remanufactured or replaced using high grade materials, alongside the parts flagged as likely to fail next.
  • 3. TestingThe system is tested thoroughly afterwards, so that what leaves us meets the manufacturer’s standards and the car drives as it was meant to.

What does a mechatronic remanufacture involve?
The control system of your gearbox is fully restored to its original function. We diagnose the mechanical and electronic sides together, remanufacture or replace the defective and worn components with high grade materials, and test the system thoroughly before it goes back.
Can I have only the mechatronic remanufactured?
No. We carry out mechatronic remanufacturing only as part of the remanufacture of a complete DSG gearbox. If the mechatronic is the only thing at fault, the DSG mechatronic page sets out the other routes, including repair, replacement and TCU cloning.
How do I know the mechatronic needs attention?
Jolting or hesitation when shifting, a gearbox that responds slowly, and error messages on the dashboard are the usual signs. Any of them is worth an appointment rather than a wait.
Is a remanufacture cheaper than a replacement?
Considerably, which is the main reason to do it. Restoring the existing unit avoids the cost of a complete replacement, and it reuses the material already in the car.
Do the adaptations need resetting afterwards?
Yes. After any remanufacture or replacement the adaptations have to be reset and relearned on a drive procedure, or the gearbox goes on shifting to default values and the car feels wrong even though the work was done properly.
